Bandwidth Bandits
Each time you upload files to your ISP, surf the web or using the audio application, you use the bandwidth.
Bandwidth of a bunch of fiber or cable that connects to the network server. Depending on the value of this wire determines the amount of data coming across the network where the website is hosted. When someone tries to get more from the data that can be handled by the network, the whole network slows down.
ISP's can put a limitation on the bandwidth at certain times during peak periods or charge a flat fee per month for bandwidth usage. If you go up the average cost, they charge extra for using extra bandwidth. Some ISP's will shut down the transmissions until traffic is more stable on the network.
You can load most files (images, sound files, videos and flash scripts and other programs) on your website. This does not include, of course, banners and pop ups and specific documents and images that should be taken from a central server.
Bandwidth bandits link to photos and other files directly to some other server, not put them on the local server. There are several reasons for why they do this but one reason is to get as much as possible the bandwidth to display images and links. So they "steal" images or audio files each time the site initialises meaning that they steal bandwidth.
There are several ways that you can stop people from stealing your bandwidth allocation. If they have an email, I will contact them personally or through Network Solutions and IP lookup which will provide information about people and sites listed. You can always get in touch with the companies that host their sites also.
